Lone Elk Park is a hidden gem a few minutes outside of St. Louis. Elk, bison (not pictured), deer, and lots of birds along a 3.2 mile loop (lots of up and down, rated difficult, FYI). First time seeing a pileated woodpecker (well, apparently the second, but first time getting pictures), along with what we thought at first was a male elk amid a bunch of deer, but turned out to be an older male elk with a bunch of younger male elk. Chaperone?
Also pictured, a bluebird, summer tanager (pretty sure), deer, etc.
